Educator and magician Andy Cohen
teaches business lessons through magic
Even if you don’t like reading typical business books and you aren’t all that interested in magic, you’ll enjoy Andy Cohen’s business fable “Follow the Other Hand.” Using magic as metaphor, Cohen tells the story of Jonathan West, olive oil importer. Jonathan’s family business is on the verge of collapse when, on the advice of a buddy, he consults Merlin, a magician who teaches him five magic tricks that coincide with business lessons – starting with: Follow the other hand.
The first trick Jonathan learns is a card trick that he takes back to his staff – and Cohen allows his readers to do the same, providing a set of magic cards and instructions for their use. Cohen has written something more akin to a novel than a business book, keeping the energy high and holding his readers’ attention, finishing all his lessons in less than 200 pages.
Cohen, a member of Duke CE's GLRN,
is a consultant, speaker and author who has generated over $1.5 billion in direct sales and serviced global Fortune 500 clients, including American Express, Nestle, Time Warner, Fox Cable Networks, HBO, NBC, Clorox, Club Med and Merrill Lynch. An adjunct professor at New York University and a guest speaker at the Stern School of Business, he helps companies and their teams think differently to generate new marketing ideas and innovative business solutions, often using magic.
