Cheryl on the "So what?" of learning methods

Our People
Cheryl Stokes
Vice President, Global Learning Methods

Cheryl is responsible for leading a team that focuses on developing and maintaining leading edge practices for learning interventions, or the “end-to-end” experience. The work of this team includes developing the next wave of experiential learning methodologies and helping build design and execution capability around these methodologies within the organization. In this role she works with clients and Duke CE client teams to design and execute innovative experiential learning activities as part of educational events. Cheryl’s current and former experiential project clients include PricewaterhouseCoopers, Merck, Ingersoll-Rand, Royal Dutch Shell, Microsoft, Ford Motor Company and the Fuqua School of Business. Cheryl also designs, teaches and coaches in programs in the areas of leadership, strategy, systemic thinking and organizational learning.

Prior to joining Duke Corporate Education, Cheryl was Director, Organization Capability for The Coca-Cola Company. In that role she worked to develop integrated learning strategies for building the capabilities that the business needed to meet its objectives. As an internal consultant at Coca-Cola, she traveled extensively and worked with Divisions in Europe, Russia, Latin America and the Philippines in addition to her work with the Minute Maid Company and North America Operations.

While completing her studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cheryl conducted research on organizational learning in a platform team environment for the Chrysler Corporation. As part of the research she completed a ‘Learning History’ that analyzed the enablers and barriers encountered as part of a multi-year effort to improve the door design for one of Chrysler’s most popular vehicles, and proposed a design alternative to help alleviate the problem.

Cheryl’s interest in organizational and team learning started early in her career as an Electrical and Process Engineer for the Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) where she worked with production and electrical support teams. Her diverse background includes work in engineering, metallurgy, quality and diversity for Alcoa, as well as work in product engineering and vehicle simulation for the Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac Division of General Motors Corporation.

Cheryl holds a Master of Science in Management and a Master of Science in Materials Science & Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from GMI Engineering & Management Institute (formerly General Motors Institute).
