Leah D. Houde, Ph.D.

Leah has been with the company since its inception in July 2000 and has been head of global human resources since February 2008. She is responsible for talent management, internal individual and culture development, and human capital planning.

Leah brings to this role experience working with key clients in the areas of talent management and internal development as well as structuring and implementing internal development solutions. After Duke CE opened its London office, she spent six months there working to develop new employees, grow the office’s culture and processes to align with those at the Durham parent location, and help to build the client base in the UK and Europe.

In her work with clients, Leah focused on the capabilities needed to help overcome challenges facing managers as they transition into their new roles in organizations as well as how to help new members of large organizations at various levels think about how to lead and make a successful impact on the organization from their earliest experiences.

She has also worked with clients in the design and administration of educational experiences and has coordinated the development of a leadership feedback instrument. In addition, Leah's roles have included teaching and facilitating in program deliveries, facilitating action learning groups, and working with program participants to develop and implement strategy in a simulated business environment. She has also coached participants in the distribution of 360° Feedback. Leah continues to oversee some client relationships in a managing director role.

While at Duke CE, Leah completed her doctoral studies in management at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business. During her graduate program, she taught in the areas of organizational behavior and general management, working extensively with Fuqua's executive education programs. Leah has worked with clients such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deutsche Bank, Eli Lilly & Co, Royal Dutch Shell, Ericsson, Glaxo Wellcome, Inc, and Siemens.

Leah's research interests involve groups and group behavior, and focus on a group's importance within an organization. Of particular interest is how individuals think about employment relationships and the risks and benefits associated with various relational forms. Leah received her BS in Psychology and PhD in Organizational Behavior from Duke University.
