Bob Fulmer is an Academic Director at Duke Corporate Education and a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Pepperdine University.
A world expert in leadership development, Bob has designed and delivered executive seminars in twenty-three countries and on six continents. His research and writing have focused on future challenges of management, implementation of strategy, and leadership development as a lever for strategic change. He was named one of the top 50 executive coaches in The 2004 Handbook of Best Practices in Executive Coaching.
Bob's writings have been widely read in both academic and professional circles. He is author of four editions of The New Management, and co-author of four editions of A Practical Introduction to Business, Crafting Competitiveness, Executive Development and Organizational Learning for Global Business, Leadership by Design, and The Leadership Investment. This year, he and Jay Conger of London Business School collaborated on Growing Your Company’s Leaders and a Harvard Business Review article on succession management. Fulmer has served on the editorial board of seven journals, is the author of five other business books and over 140 published articles. His recent article in MIT’s Sloan Management Review was named as one of the 10 best leadership articles of the decade and his latest book was named one of the top business books of the year by Soundview Executive Book Summaries.
Bob received his first endowed chair at Trinity University and was responsible for world-wide management development for Allied Signal, Inc., with responsibility ranging from first-line supervision to senior executives. He has also served as president of two management consulting firms specializing in human resource issues.
He was previously the W. Brooks George Professor of Management at the College of William and Mary and a visiting scholar at the Center for Organizational Learning at MIT. He also taught Organization and Management at Columbia University's Graduate Business School. For six years, Bob was director of executive education at Emory University, where he directed the Executive MBA program as well as public and customized programs for general and functional managers.
Bob served on the International Research Advisory Committee of the Strategos Institute, was a Senior Fellow and Special Advisor to the President of the EastWest Institute and is strategy advisor to the President of the Institute for Cancer Prevention.
Bob earned his MBA from the University of Florida, and his PhD from the University of California at Los Angeles.
