Duke CE’s Management and Leadership In Action Programme (MLAP) develops managers to lead collaboratively in today’s rapidly changing business environment.
Duke CE offers 3 full qualifications/learnership programmes:
MLAP is designed to enable managers of today to lead effectively in the world of business tomorrow. At the end of this programme, persons who are assessed as competent will gain an NQF Level 5 National Certificate: Generic Management.
The programme is accredited and Duke CE is a registered training provider for these qualification with MERSETA (17-QA/ACC/1177/16) and BANKSETA (BANK-Duke2161123).
This programme thereforefulfills the requirements for skills development levy, tax rebates and BBBEE skills development purposes.
A person acquiring this qualification will be able to manage first line managers in an organisation. First line managers may include team leaders, supervisors, junior managers, section heads and foremen.
The Learning Journey
During Year 1:
- 12-month learning journey, which includes
6 x face-to-face modules of 4 days each. Module 1 to 5 are Generic Learning Programmes
- and then delegates can specialise with Elective Learning Programmes 6.1, 6.2 or 6.3
- Pre-reading Knowledge Resource Books give comprehensive theory as required by the qualification
- Integrated summative assessments completed between each module
- Complimentary access to online subscription of Duke CE Dialogue magazine
- Impact Measurement (if appropriate)
- Additional sharing of key insights with wider teams
The credit value of the programme is 162 credits.
- 30% of the learning that takes place will be theoretical learning.
- The remaining 70% learning will take place at the workplace,
applying new knowledge and skills to the real work environment.
The qualification consists of the following elements,
which are categorised into three groups of unit standards used for training:
- Fundamental components – compulsory unit standards aimed that are the foundation of the learning programme;
- Core components – compulsory unit standards that are core to the qualification;
- Elective components – these unit standards differ from industry to industry.
Purpose and Rationale
The focus of this qualification is to enable learners to develop competence in a range of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values, including:
Initiating, developing, implementing and evaluating operational strategies, projects and action plans, and where appropriate, recommending change within teams and/or the unit so as to improve the effectiveness of the unit.
Monitoring and measuring performance and applying continuous or innovative improvement interventions in the unit in order to attain its desired outcomes, including customer satisfaction, and thereby contributing towards the achievement of the objectives and vision
of the entity.
Leading a team of first line managers, by capitalising on the talents of team members and promoting synergistic interaction between individuals and teams, to enhance individual, team and unit effectiveness in order to achieve the goals of the entity.
Building relationships using communication processes both vertically and horizontally within the unit, with superiors and with stakeholders across the value chain to ensure the achievement of intended outcomes.
Applying the principles of risk, financial and knowledge management and business ethics within internal and external regulatory frameworks in order to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of the unit.
Enhancing the development of teams and team members through facilitating the acquisition of skills, coaching, providing career direction, and capitalising on diversity in the unit.
Who Should Attend?
People aiming to become managers, or managers in an organisation who are seeking to enhance their leadership skills to take the organisation to the next level.
Candidates accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in computer literacy, numeracy, and communications at NQF level 4 or equivalent .
It is also assumed that the candidate accessing this qualification is competent in:
- Communication at NQF Level 4:
- Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 4:
The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this qualification are essential for the creation of a talent pool of experienced and effective middle managers that represents the demographics of the South African society. This qualification will create a leadership cadre for the South African society throughout multiple industries
and sectors both private and public.
Modules can be done as individual stand alone learning programmes or as a full learnership (all 6 modules).
