Tim Sylvester

Human Resource Manager, Europe, Africa & India
Associate Director, Learning Methods - NGLRN

Before joining Duke Corporate Education, Tim held HR leadership positions in a range of industries spanning mining, manufacturing, automotive, and apparel. One of his most notable achievements was with Levi Strauss Europe and Africa, where he designed and delivered leadership, diversity and team effectiveness initiatives. He also contributed to the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme in association with the Levi Strauss Foundation. It was while at Levi Strauss that Tim honed his skills in designing learning initiatives that incorporated a significant component of experiential and non-traditional learning. This experience was to provide the foundation for his other role at Duke CE.

As Associate Director, Learning Methods - NGLRN, Tim is responsible for managing and building a  network of non-traditional educators across Europe and Africa. He also contributes to the design of executive education programmes, ensuring that there is consistent design logic and flow and that programmes are designed to meet the desired learning outcomes. Tim has an interest in how non-traditional learning methodologies translate across cultures and geographical boundaries.

Tim holds a bachelor's degree in Social Science with majors in Organisational Psychology and Sociology, and a minor in Eastern Philosophy. He has a Master of Science in Management Development  and Organisational Change from the  University of Bristol and is currently completing a second master's degree in  Sustainable Development  and Corporate Environmental Management at the University of Surrey. Tim has a research interest in how issues of Sustainability and Environmentalism can be incorporated into the mainstream curriculum of executive management education. Specifically, he is interested in how non-traditional and experiential learning methods can help embed a new mindset that values sustainability.

Tim has a passion for photography, architecture and jazz, and has often used elements from these disciplines to inform his approach to design.
