Sharmla Chetty

Regional Managing Director, Africa

Sharmla Chetty is the Regional Managing Director for Duke Corporate Education, overseeing the Africa region, and serves on the board for Duke Corporate Education Africa. Her role is to lead and set strategic direction for Duke CE in Africa. Prior to her appointment as Regional Managing Director, Sharmla served as the Managing Director. 

Her expertise includes a strong focus on emerging markets, business acumen, human resources practices and processes, including executive education, organisational development, and talent management, etc.  She leads the client relationship management, advisory work and building client organisations’ strategic capacity and capabilities.Her role is to help prepare leaders to face new challenges, solve business issues, and shape a better future for their organisations. She brings a “glocal” perspective to clients, merging global best practices with local understanding of the market. She has experience working in a range of industries including financial services, healthcare, mining, and FMCG. She has extensive experience working in many geographies including Africa, China and India.

Prior to joining Duke CE, Sharmla was the Head of Human Capital Development at Nedbank and has more than 19 years of experience in this field. She was responsible for Management and Leadership Development, Grants and Education, Skills Development and Strategic Learning having worked extensively with HR practices and processes. Sharmla worked on large integration projections across different geographies in various capacities and partnership with strategic group alliance to execute organisational strategy.

Sharmla studied at Rand Afrikaans University and holds qualifications from numerous South African schools. She has an MBA from Henley Management Business School. Her dissertation achieved a distinction in the field of corporate social responsibility.

Her passion includes working in the area of corporate social responsibilities and contributing to the overall skills development of the continent.
