Keith Mackrell
Vice Chairman, LSE Strategic Relationship
Keith Mackrell is Vice Chairman of the Duke Corporate Education & LSE Enterprise strategic relationship, and a member of its board.
He is also a Governor of LSE and President Emeritus and founder of LSE Enterprise. Since retiring as Deputy Chairman of the BG Group where he focused on International Strategy, he now devotes more time to LSE and Duke CE interests and promoting beneficial relations between University and Business. Together with Blair Sheppard, he created the joint venture between ELSE and Duke CE to deliver customized management education in Europe and Africa.
He was a Board member of Shell International from 1977-1991 during which time he had responsibility at different times for Shell’s operations in East and Australasia, International Planning, and Government Affairs. He has held non-executive directorships in many companies including Standard Chartered Bank, where he was a member of the board for 12 years.
With his lifetime experience in the global oil and gas business, Keith acts as Duke CE Ltd's Energy business advisor. He was the Shell director responsible for the group's global planning in the formative years of the famous Shell scenario planning, and for 16 years he chaired Shell's non traditional business committee which reviewed proposals for Shell entering new activities, and fostered and monitored the development of the new enterprises selected. He also chaired a high level committee on organizational change. He advises and lectures to governments and companies on long-term energy prospects, the challenges of the future and organizational change in multi-national companies.
Keith holds a first class honours BSc(Econ) from the London School of Economics where he was the Harold Laski scholar. He is an Honorary Fellow of LSE and holds an honorary LLD from the National University of Singapore.
