Justin Carlson

Director, Global Learning Resource Network

Justin Carlson is a Director for Duke Corporate Education's Global Learning Resource Network (GLRN). This network is a unique and valuable asset that empowers Duke CE to meet client objectives more precisely and effectively than any other executive education provider. It draws from traditional faculty and non-traditional teachers, encompassing university professors, personal coaches, assessment experts, process facilitators, industry specialists, retired executives and many others. These educators reside in more than 25 countries worldwide, and Justin routinely crosses national and cultural boundaries to bring them successfully into the network and into client engagements.

As a GLRN Director, Justin's responsibilities include: identifying and evaluating relevant educators, developing and maintaining productive relationships with network educators, appropriately matching educators to specific client needs, and establishing educator rate agreements. He collaborates with all of Duke CE's internal client groups (located in India, UK, South Africa, New York, Durham and California), and is part of a team that sits uniquely at the intersection of client work, thought leadership, and advisory expertise. He has met with hundreds of prospective teachers, observing them in programs throughout the United States and the Middle East, and was a primary architect of evaluation and review systems used to create multi-dimensional views of every GLRN educator.

Also in his current role, Justin works across dozens of global clients in the diagnosis, design and staffing of educational programs. These clients represent a variety of industries including professional services, retail, financial services, telecommunications, hi-tech, energy, mining, aerospace, biotech, media, and many others. In addition, he is an integral part of Duke CE's business development process, contributing to the writing, designing, and resource modeling of scores of client proposals.

Justin enjoys facilitating learning activities, and has guided Duke CE developmental sessions and Duke University undergraduate courses in this capacity.

Prior to joining the GLRN management team, Justin held the position of Multimedia Developer, creating innovative program materials for Duke CE clients, such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, IBM and Merck. Justin joined Duke CE as a founding member after serving as Multimedia Developer for the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. While at Fuqua, he produced high-profile video and CD-ROM projects for Daytime, Weekend and Cross-Continent MBA programs. Before Fuqua, Justin held the role of Multimedia Coordinator for the Division of Continuing Education at his alma mater, Kansas State University. In this role he partnered with university professors to design and create web-based courses for online degree programs.

Justin is currently enrolled in Duke University's Graduate School, earning a Master's degree in Liberal Studies. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1997, cum laude, with a BA degree in Humanities, and an emphasis in Philosophy and Vocal Performance.
