John Malitoris

Regional Managing Director, Eastern U.S.

John was appointed Regional Managing Director (RMD) of the Eastern U.S. region in October 2006.  As RMD he manages Duke CE's home base with responsibility for keeping us well-connected to clients and educators in the Eastern U.S. He helps maintain and deepen relationships with parent Duke University and the Fuqua School of Business, and builds new relationships through concerted outreach, preserving all that’s best about our culture as we continue to expand at home and around the world.  John also leads one of the client teams in the U.S.

Starting his Duke CE career in 2002 as a member of the Duke CE Global Learning Resource Network, John later served as a managing girector and then executive director. In the latter role, he was responsible for managing key client relationships as well as leading design and development work with current and prospective clients.

For more than 10 years, John has been engaged in helping experienced leaders effectively address personal and professional challenges in the global business environment.  In addition to living and working in London for nearly five years, John has taught and consulted in Africa, Australia, Europe and Southeast Asia.  Since 2007, he has been partnering with colleagues at the Duke-National University of Singapore Medical School to deploy a unique team-based learning approach as part of a new curriculum.  John was appointed an Adjunct Faculty member at Duke-NUS in 2008.  In addition to designing and orchestrating learning experiences, he has coached executives and worked with business teams to enhance their performance.

John also has expertise as an executive, consultant, and entrepreneur. For more than 15 years, he worked internationally in the professional services industry as a senior executive and experienced consultant. John led the operations of a rapidly growing professional services firm with responsibility for human resources, recruiting and staffing, professional development and training, finance and administration. As a consultant, he worked in the U.S. and Europe in progressive roles leading to partnership. His expertise includes operational and business process improvement, strategic and business area planning, performance management, and managing change.

In the early 1990s, John started and led the growth of a retail services business to more than 400 employees and $10 million in revenue in less than three years, with responsibility for strategic leadership as well as day-to-day operations. Early in his career he worked in marketing and management positions for product and service divisions of a major telecommunications provider.

John holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Materials Engineering and an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
